In a remarkable incident in Jhikargachha, an injured monkey reportedly arrived on its own at a veterinary hospital seeking treatment, drawing widespread attention on social media.

The incident took place at the Upazila Livestock and Veterinary Hospital in Jhikargachha on Sunday (April 12).

Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Masuma Akhter and Veterinary Extension Officer Dr Abdur Rahman Sheikh provided treatment to the animal.

According to Dr Akhter, the monkey had sustained injuries to the rear part of its body, allegedly caused by a sharp weapon. It had reportedly been moving from place to place in search of treatment and was earlier seen at the Upazila Health Complex and a local police station.

Witnesses said the monkey initially sat on a table in the treatment shed before entering the pharmacy room, where it opened bottles of medicine, smelled them, and even attempted to consume some. However, during treatment, the animal remained surprisingly calm and did not resist.

Veterinarians cleaned the wound using antiseptic solution and provided primary care.
Photos and videos of the incident later spread across social media, leaving many people astonished. At the same time, the veterinary team received widespread praise for their compassionate response.

Dr Akhter noted that the monkey’s behaviour resembled that of a speech-impaired person, suggesting it was somehow able to express its need for medical attention.
