Sakibul Hasan Rana, a student critically injured in a clash between two factions of Chhatra Dal over drug use and control at Tejgaon College dormitory in Dhaka, has died after four days of fighting for his life.

He died early Thursday (December 10) while undergoing treatment at the ICU of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Hospital sources said three people, including Sakibul, were critically injured in the incident. They were rushed to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where Sakibul was kept in intensive care. His condition deteriorated on Wednesday night and he was placed on life support. Doctors declared him dead this morning.

The college administration said tension had been ongoing between two groups over long-standing drug use and dominance on the campus.

Eyewitnesses stated that both groups used sharp weapons and iron rods during Monday night’s clash.

Sheikhbari police station OC Monirul Islam said they have been informed about the incident, adding that no complaint has yet been lodged. “Once a complaint is filed, we will identify those involved and take appropriate action,” he said.

Meanwhile, classmates and teachers have expressed deep sorrow over Sakibul’s death.

Students have also demanded a prompt investigation and punishment of those responsible, accusing the authorities of failure in controlling drugs and ensuring security at the dormitory.
