Inqilab Mancha threatens 'Long March' to Gopalganj if attackers go unpunished
Inqilab Mancha has announced plans to launch a Long March to Gopalganj if authorities fail to take action within 24 hours regarding the attack on NCP leaders and activists in the district.
The statement came on Wednesday afternoon (July 16), as Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, made the announcement after a protest rally, held in response to the violence in Gopalganj, at Dhaka University's Raju Bhaskar.
Hadi emphasized, "Gopalganj is not outside Bangladesh. It, like the rest of the country, must be freed from Awami control." He added, "We are giving authorities 24 hours to arrest those responsible for attacking the July fighters. If no action is taken, we will organize a Long March to Gopalganj on Friday."
The protestors criticized the Awami League's role in the attack, with Hadi holding the Advisory Council members responsible for the lack of security for NCP leaders. He also stressed that those in government have no right to hold power if they cannot protect the people.
During the rally, AB Jobayer, organizer of the July Oikya protest, condemned the attack, stating that the NCP's campaign was legally permitted. However, he accused Awami League members of carrying out a "heinous attack" on NCP supporters while the police stood by.
Jobayer called for the banning of the Awami League in Gopalganj, demanding punishment for the attackers.
Meanwhile, Asaduzzaman Asad, a member of Inqilab Mancha, warned that any further violence against the July fighters would not be tolerated. He stressed that the attack was part of a conspiracy to disrupt the July Declaration and vowed to take action against anyone involved.
