Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita has said that the previous interim government failed to carry out any meaningful work for the country during its tenure.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a day-long free eye camp at Manikganj Museum on Saturday (May 2), she said the country has regained the freedom to speak after 17 years and that the opportunity must be utilised.

“The interim government did not do anything for the country in one and a half years. They cannot cite a single achievement for the people,” she said.

Highlighting the current administration’s performance, the minister said the public has already witnessed its work within the first two months, and future plans under the prime minister are well known.

She also noted that education for girls has been made free up to the graduation level. “We have come to work for the people,” she added.

According to organisers, the eye camp will provide services to around 300 to 400 people, including free medicines and eyeglasses. Patients requiring surgery will be taken to Dhaka on May 16 for further treatment.

Manikganj Museum President Professor Abul Islam Shikdar, former secretary Naim Ahmed Khan, former additional secretary Sushanta Kumar Saha, Zila Parishad Administrator Jamilur Rashid Khan, and General Secretary Habil Uddin among others were present at the event.
