Interim government to keep Universal Pension Scheme unchanged
The Ministry of Finance has decided that the Universal Pension Scheme will continue without any modifications.
The decision came from a meeting at the ministry on Monday (14 October), attended by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to the meeting sources, the four existing schemes--Probash, Progoti, Surakkha, and Samata--will remain unchanged.
However, necessary changes will be implemented to increase public participation in the universal pension programme.
A total of 3.72 lakh individuals have registered under the Universal Pension Scheme, contributing a total of Tk131 crore.
Of this amount, approximately Tk125 crore has been invested in government treasury bonds. The profits from these investments, calculated up to June 30 this year, will be distributed to beneficiaries this month.
The Universal Pension Scheme, introduced on 17 August last year, aims to provide a well-organised social security system.
