CPD Honorary Fellow Debapriya Bhattacharya said that the interim government's capacity and potential have reached the limits. "What they can do now is hold a good election."

Debapriya Bhattacharya made the remarks while addressing launching event of a report titled 'From Commitment to Implementation: Political Inclusion and Democratic Accountability' at a hotel in the capital on Sunday (February 8) morning. The event was organized by the Center for Governance Studies (CGS).

CGS conducted a survey to identify the existing obstacles behind the electoral participation of minority communities. The results of the survey were presented at the event.

The results of this survey conducted among 505 minority communities in the country show that more than 50 percent are worried about participating and more than 25 percent of the respondents feel unsafe or extremely unsafe.

In the discussion after the results were released, Debapriya Bhattacharya said that the chief adviser's words have nothing to do with his work. He said that everyone, regardless of religion or caste, will be under one umbrella. But the umbrellas did not open while it is raining.

Debapriya Bhattacharya believes that the upcoming elections are not inclusive enough. However, there is still an opportunity to make them participatory. He said that everyone, be it women, other communities or people with different political views, must be given the opportunity to participate in the elections.

Debapriya Bhattacharya said that the interim government must take the responsibility of bringing the backward people to the polls and ensuring their security before and after the elections. He believes that this is the last chance for the government to do good work. If this government can do its last good work, then it may be a chance for them to get some place in the pages of history.

SHUJAN Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder and economist Selim Jahan were also present as the guests at the event. The event was hosted by CGS President Zillur Rahman.
