Interim government's six reform commissions
The interim government has decided to form six reform commissions as 'it is committed to presenting an outline of democratic Bangladesh for the future generation.'
The commissions will work on the Constitution, electoral system, the judiciary, the police, 'anti-corruption' and public administration.
During his speech to the nation this evening, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus named the heads of the six commissions.
Here are the commissions
Electoral System Reform Commission
Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), will chair the commission.
Badiul Alam Majumdar is a Bangladeshi economist, development worker, political analyst, local government and election expert.He is the vice president and country director of the US-based charity The Hunger Project.He is the founder-secretary of a civil society organization named Citizens for Good Governance (SHUJAN).
Police Administration Reform Commission
Sarfraz Hossain, a former secretary secretary (1979) of the home ministry, will hold the helm of the Police Administration Reform Commission.
He also served as the secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration.
Judiciary Reform Commission
This commission will be led by Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman.
He served the Appellate Division as a judge from July 2009 to May 2011. He quit Applleate Division after being passed over twice for promotion to Chief Justice.
Anti-Corruption Reform Commission
Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh, will lead the commission.
Iftekharuzzaman was awarded the first Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) Award in May 2015.
Public Administration Reform Commission
Abdul Mueed Chowdhury, the newly appointed chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, will head the Public Administration Reform Commission.
The former adviser to the Latifur Rahman caretaker government, served as secretary in a number of ministries from 1994 to 2000.
Constitution Reform Commission
Dr Shahdeen Malik will oversee the Constitution Reform Commission.
He is a lawyer of the Supreme Court and also a member of CPD Board of Trustees. Over the years, he worked as consultant for a number of UN agencies and other bilateral and multilateral development partners.
