Interim govt committed to zero tolerance on terrorism: CA to US envoy
The Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has affirmed that the government maintains a policy of "zero tolerance" toward terrorism and extremism.
Dr. Yunus conveyed this message to US Chargé d'Affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson during a meeting on Monday (July 28). Later, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, briefed the media at the Foreign Service Academy.
Shafiqul Alam said, “The US Ambassador, Tracey Ann Jacobson, held a cordial meeting with the Chief Adviser today. Their discussions covered US tariffs, Bangladesh’s counter-terrorism initiatives, preparations for the upcoming national election, and the ongoing dialogues related to the Consensus Commission.”
He further said, “Dr. Yunus emphasized that counter-terrorism is the interim government's top priority and firmly stated that there is zero tolerance for terrorism.”
“A delegation from Bangladesh is departing for the United States today, where discussions on tariffs are set to begin. We are hopeful that the talks will proceed positively. A group of business representatives is accompanying the delegation, although they will not be directly involved in the negotiations,” he added.
