Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has stated that a preparatory meeting was held on what steps the interim government would take if political parties fail to reach any decision regarding the implementation of the July Charter. However, he expressed hope that political parties will discuss among themselves and reach a consensus.

He made the remarks in response to a question from journalists at a press briefing held on Thursday, November 6, at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road in the capital.

Shafiqul Alam said, “The entire nation is now awaiting the election. The election stage has been prepared. It is now the responsibility of the political parties to make decisions quickly so that they can begin election campaigning.”

He further added that the legal adviser has instructed political parties to meet and make a decision within a week. The press secretary said, “He clearly stated that if the parties do not make a decision within the stipulated time, the government itself will take the necessary decision.”

The press secretary also mentioned that during Thursday’s Advisory Council meeting presided over by the Chief Adviser, the issue was discussed ‘unofficially’.
