BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has urged the interim government to operate neutrally like a caretaker administration to ensure credible elections.

Speaking at a discussion titled “Importance of the Upcoming National Election in Protecting Bangladesh’s Independence and Sovereignty” at the National Press Club on Wednesday (October 22), he said the country has been running without an elected government for 15 months, creating instability.

“The interim government must now shift into caretaker mode. Without a people’s mandate, there is no public expectation from this government,” he said.

Amir Khasru alleged that certain officials within the administration are influencing appointments, undermining neutrality. “If such individuals disrupt the process, it will only damage the government’s credibility,” he warned.

He added that lack of accountability has spread across all sectors — from bureaucracy and law enforcement to education.

The BNP leader urged the interim government to refrain from major policy decisions and limit itself to routine administrative tasks, saying, “Otherwise, it will raise questions among the public.”

He reiterated that BNP believes in peaceful, democratic change — not chaos — and aims to present its agenda directly to the people.

Rejecting any form of foreign interference, he said, “BNP will not tolerate external involvement in Bangladesh’s internal affairs.”
