Interim govt to continue regular duties until power is handed over
The interim government will continue its regular functions until responsibilities are formally handed over to the elected administration, and meetings of the advisory council will also continue to be held, the government said in a statement.
The statement clarified that some confusion had arisen in the media following comments made by Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam at Sunday’s “Meet the Reporters” programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity regarding the tenure of the advisory council.
“It is not correct that reform initiatives and policy formulation must be completed within November,” the statement said. “Reform activities will continue in full swing.”
The advisory council will continue performing its duties and holding meetings regularly until power is transferred to the elected government, it added.
At the same event on Sunday, Information Adviser Mahfuz Alam said that out of 23 urgent proposals from the Reform Commission, the ministry had started implementing 13. He mentioned, “The Cabinet will close in November, so we aim to complete the remaining work within the next month.”
He also added, “Initially, our timeframe was three months, now it’s one month. These matters must be completed either through Cabinet approval or by formulating new policies — which will no longer be possible after November.”
