The interim government wants to leave a legacy of good work that satisfies the public, so that if a future political government does not continue these initiatives, the public can question them and create pressure to maintain the reforms, Finance Adviser Saleh Uddin Ahmed said on Wednesday (13 November).

"We aim to leave a footprint in the areas of transparency and accountability. The reforms we initiate in the short or medium term should be structured in a way that any future government can implement them for long-term benefit," he said during an event held at the Palli Karma - Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) in Agargaon, Dhaka.

"We are working to fix the widespread disorder in the banking sector," he said, adding that financial institutions need to be improved.

He further said to advance this society, farmers, labourers, and workers play a significant role but unfortunately, they often remained in the background.

"Even after we are gone, we hope that the public remembers and appreciates our work," he said.

He also said, "We lack well-functioning institutions. There are many large buildings, but they lack transparency and accountability. Serious issues have emerged in the economy, and we are gradually realising their depth.

"I have discussions with the Bangladesh Bank governor and we are working to address these issues," he said.

He added, "It's hopeful and encouraging that we have the support of both our society and the international community. We are working hard and trying to implement reforms."

Reflecting on his recent participation in the World Bank-IMF annual meetings in the United States, he shared, "During the World Bank-IMF meetings, everyone wanted to engage with us. Those we spoke to were all positive. They are willing to support our economic recovery, and the conditions they set are not overly stringent. Multinational organisations and bilateral agencies from each country have extended their support."
