Investigating officer of Oprotim murder case changed

The investigating officer of the murder case of seventh-grade student Ishayat Shahriar Oprotim in Cumilla has been changed. From now Inspector (Investigation) of Sadar Dakshin Model police station Rajib Ahmed will investigate the case. Earlier Sub-Inspector of the police station Saiful Islam was investigating the case.

Additional Superintendent of Police of the district Md Lutfur Rahman confirmed the matter in the evening on Friday. It has been learnt from police sources that the investigating officer has been changed considering the importance of the case.

New investigating officer Rajib Ahmed said the order of changing the investigating officer has been given from the office of the Superintendent of Police. He will start the work of investigation after receiving the case documents. He also informed that he will try to finish the investigation quickly and submit the charge sheet in the court.

Earlier Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam informed that the responsibility of investigating the case has now been given to Inspector (Investigation) Rajib Ahmed. The necessary documents will be handed over to him within one-two days.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar Dakshin police station Rokibul Islam said from now Inspector (Investigation) of the police station will investigate the case. Confessions of the three persons directly involved in the Oprotim murder have been obtained. However whether anyone else is involved in the incident is being examined through investigation.

Oprotim is the only child of Associate Professor of the Bangla Department of Comilla University Dr Nahida Begum. He was a student of class seven of Border Guard High School.

It has been learnt from police and family sources that Oprotim went missing from Kotbari area of Cumilla after going out to take photos with an iPhone in the afternoon on September 18. After that he did not return home. On that day his father businessman K M Firoz Shahriar filed a general diary at Sadar Dakshin police station.

The next day on September 19 police recovered the body of Oprotim from a jungle of Sananda area of Lalmai hill near Comilla University. On that night itself his father filed a murder case against unknown accused persons.

Police informed that Saiful Islam Tuhin, Mojammel Hossain Fahad and Md Kamrul Hasan were arrested on the allegation of being directly involved in the murder and Md Siyam on the suspicion of being involved by following the CCTV footage and the mobile phone of Apratim.

Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman informed in a press conference on September 20 that Oprotim was killed by hitting on the head with bamboo and stick for snatching the iPhone. Later those three fled away by taking his mobile phone.

On that day the other three arrested except Siyam gave confessional statements at the Cumilla court. As they are underage Fahad and Kamrul have been sent to the Child Development Centre of Gazipur on the order of the court. The other two accused are in Cumilla Central Jail.
