Investment and employment must be increased: Finance Minister

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the government must prioritise improving operations at Chattogram Port and boosting investment and employment. He noted that Chattogram can become the country’s commercial capital through increased investment.

The minister made the remarks to journalists after arriving in his home district Chattogram on Friday (February 20), his first visit since taking charge as finance minister, after landing at Shah Amanat International Airport.

He was welcomed by Chattogram City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, city BNP convener and MP Ershad Ullah, South district BNP joint convener and Patiya MP Enamul Haque Enam, Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Mia, and leaders of BNP and its associate bodies including Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal.

Asked about his feelings during his first Chattogram visit, he said, “It feels good. We have returned to a democratic environment. An elected parliament and government have assumed responsibility. We all must work together to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the people.”
