Iran was elected co-chair at the review conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) held under the United Nations. The decision has brought the United States and Iran to a head-on confrontation. This has created new tensions over nuclear diplomacy at the United Nations.

Washington has directly complained that giving such an important responsibility to a country like Iran questions the main purpose of the NPT agreement. According to them, Tehran has long failed to show transparency about its nuclear program and is not fully cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The United States claims that international concerns, especially over its uranium enrichment program, have not yet subsided.

On the other hand, Tehran has strongly rejected the accusation. Iranian representatives countered by saying that the United States does not have the moral standing to question compliance with international agreements. They reminded that the United States is the only country in history to have used nuclear bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which still shocks the world's conscience.

International political analysts say that this dispute is not limited to diplomatic rhetoric; rather, it reflects a deeper crisis in global nuclear politics. The main goal of the NPT treaty was to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and disarmament, but mutual distrust among the major powers is complicating this process. It is expected that this issue may heat up further in the international arena in the coming days.
