Iran has commended Bangladesh for its “balanced and constructive” position on Middle East affairs and pledged continued support to ensure the safe passage of Bangladeshi vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement issued Tuesday (April 21), the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka highlighted the “long-standing and brotherly” ties between the two countries, grounded in mutual respect and shared values. It also reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations.

The embassy welcomed a recent meeting between Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Khatibzadeh and Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, describing Bangladesh’s diplomatic role as “vital” for regional stability.

Iran expressed gratitude for Bangladesh’s condolence message following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling a related motion in Bangladesh’s parliament a “notable and exceptional gesture.”

The statement also noted Iran’s assistance in facilitating the safe return of 186 Bangladeshi nationals via Azerbaijan amid ongoing regional tensions.

Addressing recent media coverage, the embassy cautioned that selective excerpts from interviews circulating on social platforms could create confusion.

Reiterating its commitment, Iran said it would continue diplomatic and strategic efforts to ensure the uninterrupted and secure movement of Bangladeshi commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
