BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has officially launched a mosquito control campaign at the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) headquarters, following a series of meetings earlier this week with cleanliness inspectors and ward secretaries from all 70 wards.

This development comes amid continued demonstrations by DSCC employees demanding that Ishraque be allowed to assume the office of mayor. Supporters of Ishraque, organized under the banner of Dhakabashi (People of Dhaka), also gathered at Nagar Bhaban in solidarity.

Although the sit-in began earlier in the day, Ishraque arrived at the Nagar Bhaban premises around 1 PM on Wednesday. After addressing the demonstrators, he inaugurated the mosquito control drive in the compound.

Earlier the same day, Ishraque chaired his first meeting inside Nagar Bhaban, held in the building’s conference room. A banner at the event referred to him as the “Honourable Mayor,” and he was present as the chief guest.

Speaking at the launch, Ishraque said, “While our movement for rightful authority continues, we are also ensuring that essential city services remain uninterrupted under our supervision. With dengue season approaching, we are taking proactive steps to intensify mosquito control efforts.”

Over the past several days, Ishraque and his team have vowed to maintain essential civic services amid the political deadlock, asserting administrative control over DSCC operations.
