Islamic Foundation publishes Ramadan Sehri, Iftar timetable
Islamic Foundation has released the Sehri and Iftar timetable ahead of this year’s Ramadan, expected to begin in the second half of February, depending on moon sighting.
According to the schedule released today (January 20), the deadline for Sehri, the pre-dawn meal, will be 5:12am, while Iftar, the evening meal to break the fast, will be at 5:58pm on the first day.
The Islamic Foundation’s divisional and district offices will publish Sehri and Iftar times for other districts.
The start of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, traditionally depends on the sighting of the crescent moon.
Muslims may begin fasting on different days depending on their geographical locations and the methods used to determine the start of the month.
Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, alongside the profession of faith, prayer, almsgiving, and pilgrimage.
Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and physical needs, and avoiding wrongdoing.
Ramadan is also marked by increased charity, congregational prayers, and greater devotion to reciting the Quran.
