The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate today urged the public to remain alert against fraudulent activities carried out using fake identities of Bangladesh Army and Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) officials.

According to an ISPR release issued this afternoon, necessary steps are underway to bring the fraudsters to justice.

The release said a group of fraudsters is threatening people over mobile phones by impersonating military officers of various ranks, including Brigadier General and Lieutenant Colonel, as well as DGFI.

It added that the group is collecting photos of army officers in uniform from various websites and using those images on WhatsApp profiles to gain public trust and carry out deception.

The ISPR categorically stated that the Bangladesh Army or any intelligence agency does not communicate with individuals in such a manner.

The release advised victims to immediately inform the nearest law enforcement agency, providing the mobile number of the caller, if anyone claiming to be a high-ranking military official attempts to threaten or seek any benefit via phone or message.
