IU alumnus excluded from assistant teacher post for not having homestead
A former student of Islamic University (IU), Mission Acharya, has alleged that despite being selected for the post of assistant teacher at a government primary school, he was excluded from the appointment because he does not have a homestead at his permanent address. He was a student of the university's Finance and Banking Department in the 2013-14 academic year.
Mission Acharya's home is in the Kolabagan area of Jhenaidah Sadar upazila. He claims he was excluded at the final stage of the appointment process because he does not have a homestead at his permanent address. As his father left the family many years ago, he has also been deprived of his father's address. Since then, he has been living with his mother in a rented house in Jhenaidah. He said he was born in the Kolabagan area and has been living there since birth.
Mission Acharya said a total of 182 people were recommended for appointment to the post of assistant teacher at government primary schools. Of them, 180 were given appointment letters. Of the remaining two, one has a case against him, and the other is himself. He also said he secured the 17th position at the upazila level.
He said when police first asked about providing a landless certificate, he was told submitting land documents would also work. Later, his uncle registered two decimals of land in his name in the village area. He also submitted the land documents during the police investigation. However, he has no homestead there and has never lived there.
In Mission Acharya's words, his mother raised him by working in households. Their financial condition is also very poor. He also claimed he is not involved with any political party or activity. In this situation, he sought the government's kind consideration to get the job back.
Mission Acharya said, "What is my fault? I was born in a rented house — is that my fault? The state takes my vote, feeds me, educates me, but does not give me a job. It seems that to the state, land and property are worth more than my talent and hard work."
In this regard, Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Md Noman Hossain said a complication arose regarding the permanent address in Mission Acharya's appointment. The matter has been reported in writing to the Directorate of Education from the Primary Education Office. He expressed hope that a solution would be found to the matter.
