IU Forms 5-member committee to probe allegations against 44 teachers

The authorities of Islamic University (IU) have formed a five-member committee to investigate allegations that 44 teachers were involved in anti-state covert activities. The committee has been asked to submit its report by August 12.

The decision was announced in an office order signed by Acting Registrar Professor Monjurul Haque, and later confirmed by the university's Public Relations Office.

IU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Emtaz Hossain has been appointed as the convener of the committee.

The other members are Professor Mostafizur Rahman, Professor Rafiqul Islam, the university's panel lawyer Sajjat Hossain, while Deputy Director of Accounts Israful Haque will serve as the member secretary.

According to the university, the committee was formed following a recent media report alleging that 44 teachers were involved in anti-state covert activities. It has been tasked with verifying the allegations, identifying those involved, determining the appropriate course of action, and submitting recommendations.

The committee will also examine whether the accused teachers had any role in suppressing the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement or threatening protesters during the tenure of the previous government, as alleged.

Earlier, at a syndicate meeting on October 30 last year, the university decided to take disciplinary action against 19 teachers, 11 officials, and 33 students over allegations of opposing the July mass uprising.

However, the 19 suspended teachers and 11 officials were later reinstated to their positions.
