JAGPA blocks road in Badda demanding Hasina’s return from India
Leaders and activists of the National Democratic Party (JAGPA) staged a protest and blocked the road in the capital’s Badda area on Wednesday, demanding the return of Sheikh Hasina from India.
The protest began around 11:30 AM when JAGPA activists blocked the road and held a rally. Prior to that, at approximately 10:00 AM, they had brought out a protest procession from the National Press Club, marching toward the Indian High Commission with the intention to lay siege to the embassy.
However, police intercepted the procession at the Gulshan-Badda Link Road. In response, JAGPA protesters staged a sit-in and continued their demonstration on the road.
Following discussions with law enforcement, the protesters called off their planned siege and cleared the road around 12:15 PM. Traffic in the area returned to normal shortly afterward.
JAGPA had earlier announced the program in protest against India allegedly granting refuge to Sheikh Hasina and demanded her immediate repatriation. The party claims that Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5 last year following a popular uprising led by students and citizens.
