JAGPA calls for Indian embassy siege over Hasina’s return
Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (JAGPA) has announced plans to besiege the Indian High Commission on August 6, demanding the return of Sheikh Hasina, who they claim fled to India amid ongoing student and public protests.
To build momentum for this campaign, JAGPA’s student wing, JAGPA Chhatra League, organized a rally and protest march on Friday near the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. The demonstrators strongly condemned what they described as the interference of the Awami League and the Indian government in Bangladesh’s internal affairs.
Following the Friday prayers, activists gathered at the mosque’s north gate, chanting slogans before holding a brief assembly. Speaking at the event, JAGPA Chhatra League President Abdur Rahman Faruqui said, “On behalf of our 12-party alliance, we have declared the siege of the Indian High Commission demanding Sheikh Hasina’s return. Today’s rally and assembly are preparatory steps to ensure the success of this movement.”
Other key leaders present included Acting General Secretary Lutfor Rahman, former General Secretary Shyamal Chandra Sarkar, and Organizational Secretary Md. Jamal Akon.
After the speeches, protesters marched from the north gate of Baitul Mukarram, passing Purana Paltan Mor, and proceeding toward the National Press Club. The demonstration passed without incident, with normal law and order maintained throughout. Additional police forces were deployed around the mosque and surrounding areas during the event.
