Jahangir Alam Khan takes charge as BMDA Executive Director
Md Jahangir Alam Khan has formally assumed office as the new Executive Director of the Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA), taking charge at the authority’s headquarters in Rajshahi on Monday (August 17).
The BMDA public relations wing confirmed his joining.
The Public Administration Ministry appointed Jahangir Alam Khan as Executive Director (Grade-2) of the state-run authority on a contractual basis for one year through a notification issued on August 1.
The notification, signed by ministry Deputy Secretary Golam Rabbani on behalf of the President, was issued under Section 14(2) of the BMDA Act, 2018.
His appointment was subsequently finalised through an appointment letter signed by Agriculture Ministry Deputy Secretary Tahmina Sultana, with his joining date set for August 12.
Under the terms of his appointment, Khan will not be allowed to engage in any other profession or business or maintain employment with any government, semi-government or private institution or organisation during his tenure. Other terms and conditions will be set out in his contract.
After taking charge, the newly appointed executive director visited the grave of Dr M Asaduzzaman, BMDA’s late founder and former executive director and chairman. He offered prayers for the deceased and sought blessings for the authority’s continued progress and success.
His assumption of office has generated a positive response among BMDA officials and employees, particularly those working at the field level, according to the authority’s public relations wing.
Officials and employees hope Khan’s administrative experience and leadership will help accelerate BMDA’s work in modernising irrigation systems, strengthening water management and advancing agricultural development across the Barind region. They also expect greater momentum in sustainable infrastructure development.
Engineers, officials, employees and representatives of various stakeholders congratulated Khan on his appointment and assumption of office.
