Jail escaped 'top terror' hacked to death in Narsingdi

A top terror who earlier escaped from prison was hacked to death in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi.

Police recovered the body of Apu Ahmed from inside a sawmill in Morjal Union of the upazila on Tuesday (January 20) morning.

The deceased is the son of Habibur Rahman, a resident of Pahar Morjal area of ​​Morjal Union. He was an enlisted 'top terror', said Narsingdi District Police.

According to police and local sources, Apu Ahmed escaped after miscreants attacked Narsingdi jail during the July 2024 mass uprising. Since then, he has been on the run but regularly visited his area.

On Tuesday morning, local people saw a body lying inside the sawmill and informed the police. On receiving the information, Raipura police station went to the spot and recovered the body.

Raipura police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Kamal Hossain confirmed the death.

He said that the police have prepared a report on the scene. Initially, it is believed that the murder was committed due to an internal dispute between the criminal gang. There are a total of eight cases against the deceased Apu Ahmed, including murder. The police are working to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
