Jubo League leader Sahid Mahmud was temporarily released on parole to attend his mother's funeral in Nilphamari, arriving at the funeral prayers in handcuffs before being returned to Rangpur Central Jail afterwards.

The funeral prayer for his mother, Rowshan Ara Begum, was held on Tuesday afternoon at the Nilphamari Dak Bungalow Eidgah ground. She was later laid to rest at the Circuit House graveyard.

According to family sources, Rowshan Ara Begum died on Monday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Rangpur.

Following her death, authorities granted Sahid Mahmud parole to allow him to attend her funeral.

Sahid Mahmud is the general secretary of the Nilphamari district unit of the Jubo League and a former chairman of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila Parishad.

After remaining absconding in multiple cases, he was arrested from a rented house in Rangpur city on 7 September last year and has since been held in Rangpur Central Jail.

Following the funeral prayers, members of the law enforcement agencies escorted him back to prison.

Leaders and activists from the BNP, Jatiya Party, Jamaat-e-Islami and other political parties, along with local dignitaries, attended the funeral of Rowshan Ara Begum.
