Jamaat activist shot dead in Ctg

A Jamaat-e-Islami activist was killed and another injured in a shooting carried out by unidentified assailants at Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram district on Saturday.



The incident took place around 7:30pm in the Shahnagar area of Lelang Union


The deceased was identified as Jamal Uddin and another man, Nasir Uddin alias Chhoto Nasir, was injured in the attack.


According to locals, Nasir is also involved in Jamaat politics. He was rescued and admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment.


According to police and local sources, a group of attackers arrived on three motorcycles and suddenly opened fire on Jamal and Nasir. Jamal died on the spot from gunshot wounds.


Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene, recovered the body and prepared an inquest report.


Six spent bullet shells were recovered from the site.


Hathazari Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Kazi Md Tarek Aziz said that police had confirmed one death and one injury in the shooting


“Locals told us that the victims were Jamaat activists. However, we have not yet received detailed information and the identities of the attackers remain unknown,” he said.


Police said the incident is being investigated seriously and efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible.
