Jamaat Ameer alleges fabricated ‘judicial killings’ under Hasina government
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday accused the Sheikh Hasina government of orchestrating “judicial killings” by using fabricated cases, resulting in the deaths of six senior leaders of the party.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Diploma Engineers’ Institute, Dr. Rahman claimed that the trials of these leaders were riddled with irregularities and forgery. “During Sheikh Hasina’s authoritarian regime, six of our top leaders were executed through false cases. Many other party leaders and activists were also killed, and during the mass movement of 2024, numerous people were mercilessly martyred,” he said.
Dr. Rahman said calls for fair justice were ignored, as the real goal was to eliminate Jamaat’s leadership. “The judiciary was manipulated to orchestrate their deaths,” he added.
He also alleged that party leaders were tortured in so-called ‘safe homes’ and harassed with false charges. “Attempts were made to force false confessions from many of our leaders, but they remained steadfast and refused to yield,” the Jamaat Ameer said.
Referring to witness Sukharanjan Bali’s case, Dr. Rahman said Bali was abducted from court premises after testifying in favor of Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam. “International legal standards were disregarded, making the trials a mockery of justice — what we call ‘genocide justice,’” he added.
Dr. Rahman concluded by stating that if Jamaat gets a chance to serve the nation, it will end the politics of vengeance and work towards building a just and equitable society. “Had our senior leaders been alive, they could have played a crucial role during this critical time for the nation,” he said.
