Jamaat Ameer congratulates Tarique Rahman
Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has offered advance congratulations to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman as the future Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The Jamaat Ameer conveyed his congratulations when Tarique Rahman visited his residence on Sunday.
In a subsequent Facebook post, Dr Shafiqur Rahman said, "I am offering advance congratulations to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman as the future Prime Minister of Bangladesh. He visited my residential office today. This visit represents a historic moment for our national politics. I welcome his visit and expect that through dialogue and responsibility, it will usher in a new chapter of political maturity and mutual respect."
He stated, "I dream of building a Bangladesh that is fascism-free, sovereign and founded on justice and fairness. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, together with the 11-party alliance, is committed to establishing a prosperous, stable and modern state that will operate based on democratic values and constitutional governance. During our discussion, he assured me that he will take effective measures to prevent post-election violence and any attacks on opposition party workers and minority communities. I welcome this assurance. Our expectation is that no citizen shall fall victim to fear or insecurity."
Noting that they will extend full cooperation to the elected government on matters of national interest, he said, "As a principled opposition party, we will remain uncompromising in fulfilling our constitutional responsibilities. Our support will be there for the government's welfare-oriented work, but wherever accountability is required, we will raise our voice."
The Jamaat Ameer added, "Our objective is not confrontation but correction; not obstruction but observation. The people of the country desire a parliament that will protect justice and citizens' rights and move the state forward with stability."
