Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has expressed grief over the death of Iran's supreme religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He conveyed his condolences in a post on his verified Facebook page around 11:30 am on Sunday, March 1.

In the post, Shafiqur Rahman said, "Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. I am deeply saddened by the news of the martyrdom of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. My heartfelt condolences to the grieving people of Iran. May Almighty Allah grant them patience and strength during this difficult time."

He said, "The current unrest in the Middle East has already put regional stability at extreme risk. If this situation moves towards further military escalation, it will bring disastrous consequences not just for one country but for the entire region. Any attack during the holy month of Ramadan will create deep anger and concern in the hearts of ordinary people worldwide and further endanger global peace."

Calling upon all parties to show restraint, the Jamaat Ameer further said, "I call upon all parties concerned, including the United States, Israel and Iran, to immediately cease military actions, exercise maximum restraint and move towards diplomatic solutions. Ensuring international law, state sovereignty and the protection of civilians is now the most urgent priority. The United Nations and world leaders must now play an effective role in preserving global peace."
