Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Saiful Islam Shahid has withdrawn from the election in the Comilla-4, Debidwar constituency, following an electoral understanding that cleared the seat for Hasnat Abdullah. Shahid announced the decision on Sunday night, December 28, through a post on his verified Facebook account. In the post, he said he had stepped aside from the election in compliance with the organisation’s central decision and prayed for lifelong perseverance in the cause of establishing Islamic values. Earlier, the National Citizen Party joined the Jamaat-led eight-party alliance. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the National Press Club on Sunday, where Jamaat ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman formally disclosed the alliance.

কুমিল্লা-৪ (দেবিদ্বার) আসন সমঝোতায় হাসনাত আব্দুল্লাহর আসন থেকে সরে দাঁড়ালেন জামায়াতে ইসলামীর প্রার্থী সাইফুল ইসলাম শহীদ। রবিবার রাতে সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে নিজের ভেরিফাইড ফেসবুক অ্যাকাউন্টে এ তথ্য জানান শহীদ। তিনি বলেন, ‘আলহামদুলিল্লাহ, সংগঠনের কেন্দ্রীয় সিদ্ধান্ত মেনে নিয়ে নির্বাচন থেকে নিজেকে আড়াল করে নিলাম। আল্লাহ যেন দ্বীন কায়েমের পথে আমৃত্যু টিকে থাকার তৌফিক দান করেন।’ এর আগে, জামায়াত নেতৃত্বাধীন ৮ দলীয় জোটে যোগ দেয় এনসিপি। রবিবার জাতীয় প্রেস ক্লাবের একটি হলে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এ ঘোষণা দেন জামায়াতের আমির ডা. শফিকুর রহমান।
