Jamaat demands withdrawal of Nilphamari SP Jahidul

Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded the withdrawal of Nilphamari Superintendent of Police (SP) Sheikh Jahidul Islam over the arrest of Thakurgaon district unit Ameer Belal Uddin Pradhan along with Tk74 lakh.

This demand was made at a press conference held at the party's central office in Moghbazar in the capital on Wednesday (February 11) night.

The incident at Syedpur Airport and the media reports related to it were presented at the press conference through a power point presentation. Jamaat's election management committee member Saif Uddin Khaled made the presentation.

Saif Uddin said that Nilphamari SP Sheikh Jahidul Islam organized the media trial in the Syedpur Airport incident. He is one of the associates of former DB chief Monirul Islam, who fled to India.

He also claimed that four days ago, in violation of the election code of conduct, Nilphamari SP Jahidul Islam and several other police members had lunch with the BNP chairman. Although the Home Affairs Adviser had earlier said that police would not be able to eat food provided by any candidate or agent.

Raising the question of who has access to the airport cameras and scanning videos, Saif Uddin Khaled said that reports against Jamaat candidates on Facebook pages of some media outlets have been boosted in a targeted manner.

He claimed that preparations for the media trial were made within 45 minutes of being cleared from Dhaka Airport and the reports were simultaneously published in mainstream media outlets within an hour. At the same time, internal footage was leaked. In his words, “Everything was planned.”
