Dr Kazimuddin, a Jamaat leader, has been accused of sexually assaulting and raping eight children in Doarabazar Upazila, Sunamganj.

The incident took place at Banglabazar Boroiuri Alim Madrasa, is a Quran training center run by Jamaat's Ittehadul Korra, in Doarabazar Upazila.

Accused Jamaat leader Kazimuddin is the head qari of the madrasa branch of that institution and a village doctor. Kazimuddin has two wives. His first wife, Mosha Rabeya Akhter, is also a key figure in the Jamaat, while his second wife resides in the neighboring village of Banshtala.

According to locals, Kazimuddin committed these heinous acts on students who had come to study at the madrasa on various occasions. When the news broke on Thursday (March 20), it sparked outrage among the community. They gathered around the madrasa, held a procession, and launched a movement demanding justice and punishment for Kazimuddin.

Upon hearing the news, Dr Harun Rashid, the Ameer of Jamaat in Beyai Upazila, hurried to the scene. He held a meeting at the madrasa in an attempt to downplay the incident. Additionally, to calm the protesters, he announced that Kazimuddin would be expelled for life from the Quran training center.

After the announcement, locals grew angrier and gathered outside the madrasa. When Kazimuddin’s supporters tried to resolve the issue privately, the local youth society intervened, demanding a public trial for Kazimuddin.

A victim's guardian claimed that Qari Kazimuddin wields influence due to his Jamaat ties, while the madrasa victims remain silent out of fear.

As the allegations against Jamaat leader Kazimuddin have been confirmed, he has been permanently banned from the madrasa and declared undesirable, said Harun-ur Rashid, chief adviser of 'Ittehadul Korra Bangladesh' in Doarabazar Upazila.
