Jamaat leader arrested with cash outside polling centre in Chuadanga
Law enforcement officials arrested Sharif, president of Jamaat’s Ward-9 unit in Chuadanga municipality, along with cash, near a polling centre on Thursday morning (February 12).
He was later taken into police custody in the presence of an executive magistrate.
The incident took place after voting began at the Rezia Khatun Girls’ Academy School polling centre on Hospital Road, where two Jamaat supporters, including a woman, were also detained by BNP supporters.
Authorities recovered BDT 79,000 in cash from Sharif at the scene.
Executive Magistrate Mohammad Alauddin Al Azad arrived promptly to manage the situation and supervised the arrest of the Jamaat leader.
No further violence was reported, and the incident is under investigation by local law enforcement.
