Jamaat leader held over child sexual harassment allegation in Rajshahi

Police have arrested a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami in Paba upazila, Rajshahi, for allegedly sexually harassing a nine-year-old girl in the Borgachi Union. A case is being filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act .

Omar Faruk was arrested on Friday afternoon from the Pakarmatha area. He is a member of Jamaat's Ward No. 4 unit in Borgachi Union and works as a village doctor. Alongside his pharmacy, he and his wife also gave private tuition to children .

Local sources and police said the girl reported the incident to her mother about 22 days ago. According to the complaint, after dismissing other students during a tuition session, the accused allegedly molested her. The child's mother claimed she informed the accused's father, Mojibur Rahman, who advised against pursuing the matter .

Omar Faruk has denied the allegations, stating he was only teaching the child and committed no misconduct. His father, Mojibur Rahman, also called the accusation false and motivated .

Abdur Rahman Milon, Amir of Borgachi Union Jamaat-e-Islami, said the organisation is aware of the matter and will take action if the allegations are proven .

Paba Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Motin confirmed the arrest and said the legal process is ongoing .
