Jamaat leader jailed for vote buying in Sutrapur
A mobile court has sentenced Md. Habib, the Naib-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Sutrapur police station unit, to two days in jail for vote buying in the capital's Sutrapur.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Lalbagh Division Md. Nazim Uddin Al Azad confirmed the matter. He said that after his detention, the mobile court immediately sentenced Md. Habib to two days in jail.
Meanwhile, tension erupted between Jamaat and BNP activists in another separate incident in the same area. Inspector Mohaiminul said that a presiding officer was distributing cards to polling agents. At that time, some BNP workers tried to stop him. Later, members of the army and BGB went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Earlier, a clash took place between women workers of the two parties in the Karail slum of Banani police station. It is reported that a woman worker of Jamaat was injured in the incident.
Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said that the Jamaat women workers were discussing with their polling agents. At that time, tension arose when some BNP women supporters tried to stop them. He also said that legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
