Jamaat leader relieved after video goes viral, claims woman as wife

A video claiming that Jamaat leader Taijul Islam was caught by locals while being in a room with a woman in Shibchar of Madaripur has spread on social media. After this incident he has been relieved from party responsibility. However, in his own Facebook post Taijul Islam has claimed the woman seen in the video as his wife.

Taijul Islam was in the responsibility of Amir of Nilkhi Union Jamaat-e-Islami. In a press release signed by Shibchar Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Yusuf Howladar on Tuesday (October 27) noon, it was informed that he has been relieved from the responsibility.

Local sources have informed that this incident took place at Taijul Islam’s house in Paschim Charkamarkandi village of Nilkhi Union of the upazila on last Sunday (October 25) noon. His father’s name is Abdur Rahman Miaji. After the incident the video started spreading on social media from Sunday evening. Later it was widely shared on various Facebook IDs and groups.

Shibchar Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Sarowar Hossain Mridha has said that after August 5, 2024 many people came to them to get involved with Jamaat-e-Islami. As Nilkhi Union is far from the upazila town, the responsibility of party publicity and organisational activities there was given to Taijul Islam. Locals knew him as union president.

He has said that after knowing the matter Taijul Islam has been relieved from all party activities. If the allegation is proved, action will be taken against him according to organisational rules.

Meanwhile, some locals have alleged that Taijul Islam used to do panipora and jharfuk saying he would solve various problems and treatment of women. They have also alleged that by calling women to the house in this way he got involved in immoral activities.

Local mosque imam and madrasa teacher Abul Kalam Azad has alleged that by saying treatment women were brought to the house and immoral activities were done with them. He has demanded proper investigation of these allegations and action against the involved person.

Former Jubo Dal president of Nilkhi Union Mintu Matubbar has informed that although Taijul Islam’s ancestors were residents of Cumilla, they have been living in that area for a long time. His claim is that Taijul Islam is involved with treatment service and is also associated with Jamaat-e-Islami politics. He has demanded investigation of the allegation of immoral activities in the name of treatment and taking necessary action.

However, in a post given on his own Facebook account Taijul Islam has claimed that the woman seen in the video is his wife. As he is in hiding, it has not been possible to talk to him directly on this matter.

Attempt was made to contact Shibchar Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Sarowar Hossain Mridha by phone to know his statement regarding the allegation and viral video, but he did not receive the call.
