Jamaat leader Rezaul Karim succumbs to injuries as BNP-Jamaat lock horn in Sherpur
Secretary of Srivardi Upazila unit Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Rezaul Karim, who was seriously injured in a clash between BNP and Jamaat over sitting on a chair on the manifesto platform in Sherpur-3 Constituency, passed away.
Party sources said that he died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Nuruzzaman Badal, the candidate of Jamaat-e-Islami for Sherpur-3 seat, said that the deceased Rezaul Karim received severe injuries.
Earlier this afternoon, this clash took place in an event organized by the upazila administration in Jhenaigati upazila parishad ground.
According to local sources, on Wednesday afternoon, the upazila administration organized a 'public face-to-face' or manifesto reading programme. BNP and Jamaat activists-supporters chased each other and clashed over sloganeering there.
Rezaul Karim was seriously injured in the clash. He was immediately rescued and taken to a local hospital and later sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital when his condition worsened. He died on the way to hospital.
