Local Jamaat-e-Islami leaders disrupted a Victory Day play titled “Muktijuddher Golpe Rajakarer Path” at Ramgati in Lakshmipur.

The incident took place at the Alexander ASM Abdur Rob Government College grounds in the upazila around 10am on Tuesday (December 16), and a video of the event went viral on Facebook by 10:30pm of the same night.

According to the eye-witnesses and the video, the play, performed by 12–15 students, depicted interactions between freedom fighters and collaborators during the 1971 Liberation War.

Jaamat leaders objected to students portraying Rajakars while wearing Punjabi-Hat, claiming it hurt religious sentiments, and demanded an explanation from the college principal.

Upazila Jamaat Amir Abdur Rahim said, “As a Muslim, I could not accept it because they were acting in Punjabi-Hat.”

The situation escalated briefly but was brought under control by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nilufa Yasmin and Ramgati Police Station OC (acting) Liton Dewan.

Mohammad Ashraf Uddin, principal of the college, confirmed the matter, stating, “The issue was resolved after discussion.”

At the end of the programme, a play portraying the events between freedom fighters and Razakars during the Liberation War was performed. Objections were raised regarding the use of Punjabi-Hat, but the administration successfully restored order, the OC said.
