Jamaat MP's daughter accused of beating madrasa students; protesters lay siege to house

Agitated locals laid siege to the residence of Golam Rasul, MP for Jashore-4 and district Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, on Tuesday (July 28) morning, protesting the alleged beating and reckless behaviour of his daughter Mehezabin Jannat Ononna towards local madrasa students. The protest took place in the Nilganj Supari Bagh area of Jashore city.

During the protest, the agitated crowd vandalised the house by throwing bricks and stones at windows. MP Golam Rasul and his family members were inside the residence at the time. As the situation escalated, police dispersed the protesters. Additional police have been deployed in front of the house, and the situation is currently under police control.

The protesters alleged that Ononna beat and threatened young students of Al Madrasatul Sharia, located opposite the MP's residence, on Monday afternoon. A settlement was reached between the madrasa authorities and the MP's family through police mediation.

Locals said that on Tuesday morning, she again confronted the children and their guardians. During this, a lock thrown by her struck the head of a guardian, Reksana Khatun. This enraged the madrasa guardians and locals, who gathered and laid siege to the MP's house, protesting. They attempted to break down the gate and threw bricks and stones, shattering window panes. Police arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control, and dispersed the protesters after a few hours.

Al Madrasatul Sharia's Muhotamim Kabir Hossain alleged, "The MP's daughter repeatedly confronts the children. She beat them on Monday as well. Following that, both sides sat for a settlement on Monday. On Tuesday morning, the children were playing when the MP and his daughter suddenly confronted them. At one point, the MP's daughter threw a lock, which struck a guardian's head. Then the agitated guardians and locals came and protested."

MP Golam Rasul and his family remained confined to their home for several hours. He declined to comment on the matter.

However, Golam Rasul's wife, Sharmin Dina, claimed their daughter Ononna suffers from mental health issues. She said although the madrasa is officially closed, children often come and create disturbances, leading to disputes. She also alleged that false accusations were being made after the attack on their home.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masum Khan said there was a dispute between the MP's daughter and the madrasa children and guardians. Following the incident, agitated locals laid siege to the MP's house. Police arrived and brought the situation under control. Anyone with complaints has been asked to submit them in writing, and necessary action will be taken after investigation.
