Jamaat says Hasina's trial fair and global standards, demands her return from India
Jamaat-e-Islami has called for Sheikh Hasina’s return from India, saying her trial by International Crimes Tribunal-1 was transparent, impartial, and met international standards.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said, "If one claims to behave as a good neighbour, if one aspires to maintain friendly relations, this is their foremost responsibility to ensure Hasina's return."
Parwar made the remark at a press briefing held at the party's central office in Dhaka's Moghbazar this afternoon (November 17).
Earlier in the day, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death in a case over crimes against humanity committed during last year's July uprising.
Reacting to the verdict, Parwar said, "We believe there is no scope for anyone to question this trial."
The Jamaat leader added, "Those who have provided shelter to a fugitive death-row convict, in our view, have taken a stand in favour of the heinous criminal. We demand that she will be returned to Bangladesh."
Sheikh Hasina has been in India under shelter since August 5 last year.
