Jamaat supports BNP's demand for national unity: Shafiqur Rahman
Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed its agreement with the demand made by BNP for the creation of national unity in the larger interest of the country.
On Thursday (November 28) evening, after a meeting with the Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, made this statement.
Earlier, under the leadership of the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, four leaders met with the Chief Advisor at his residence in Jamuna.
The day before, on Wednesday, after a meeting with the Chief Adviser, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also spoke about the need for national unity.
He had told journalists, "National unity is the most urgent need right now. We are facing significant challenges. To confront these challenges, especially to resist and counter those who pose a threat to Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty or want to destabilize the country, we must certainly create national unity. This is what we have been saying."
On Thursday, after the meeting with the Chief Adviser, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami also voiced similar sentiments.
In response to journalists' questions, Shafiqur Rahman said, "The issue of national unity was indeed discussed. We have had concerns today. However, the concern is not that the country seems to be heading toward ruin. The issue is that we need to identify who is disrupting peace and order in the country, and we must tackle it with national unity."
He continued, "We discussed the current situation in the country with the Chief Advisor. We also talked about how, in the future, the country can proceed towards elections with peace and order. We discussed how national unity can be achieved in the country, regardless of nation, religion, or ethnicity, and how progress can be made in the administration."
