Jamaat-e-Islami’s women’s wing has suspended its previously announced women’s rally scheduled for January 31 at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

In a statement posted on the women’s wing’s Facebook page on Thursday afternoon, the organisation said the rally had been postponed due to unavoidable reasons.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Jamaat’s Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher announced the programme for the first time at a press conference held at the party’s central office. He said the rally was scheduled to begin at 10.30 am on January 31 at Suhrawardy Udyan.

The rally was called in protest against incidents of harassment, attacks on women and obstruction of women’s political activities across the country during election campaigning. At the time, Taher said this would be the first occasion on which members of their women’s organisation would be compelled to come out publicly to stage a protest rally.
