'Jamaat to nominate woman candidates if given opportunity to form government'
Jamaat-e-Islami nominated candidate for Dhaka-12 constituency Saiful Alam Khan said that women will be nominated to contest the national parliament elections in the future if his party is given the opportunity to form the government.
He said this at a dialogue titled 'National Election 2026 and Citizen Expectations' at the China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on Tuesday (January 13).
The dialogue was organized by the Nagorik Platform. BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was present as the chief guest.
When Debapriya Bhattacharya, convener of the Platform at the dialogue, asked about the nomination of women, Saiful Alam said, "We have made women participate in the local elections. They have been elected and have worked. Please pray, we will also bring them to the national parliament. If you give them the opportunity, Insha Allah, women will come forward."
He also mentioned that not only Jamaat is lagging behind in the participation of women, the big parties also want to move forward in the same way.
