Jamaat-led 11-party alliance announces August 5 rally in Dhaka

The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance has announced a public rally in the capital on August 5, demanding the implementation of the July National Charter and the mandate delivered through the national referendum.

The announcement was made on Thursday night (July 30) by the alliance's coordinator and Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad while speaking to reporters outside the Opposition Leader's residence on Minto Road following a meeting of the alliance's liaison committee.

Hamidur Rahman Azad said the alliance had concluded its previous phase of programmes with the Sylhet divisional rally held on July 25. He added that the coalition's top leaders would meet again on August 3 to finalise the roadmap and organisational preparations for the upcoming rally at Paltan.

Representatives from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), JAGPA, Bangladesh Labour Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, NCP, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party and BDP attended the meeting. However, leaders from Khelafat Majlis and the Bangladesh Khilafat Andolan did not participate.

The alliance also condemned the recent attack on NCP leaders and activists during the 'July Padajatra 2026' programme in Habiganj and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.

Hamidur Rahman Azad alleged that resorting to violence to counter political differences was unacceptable and warned that such incidents should not be allowed to recur.

He further claimed that the government had failed to meet public expectations and alleged that an atmosphere of violence was being created to suppress opposition political activities. Calling for legal action against those involved in the Habiganj incident, he urged people to unite against what he described as the government's anti-democratic actions.
