Jamaat-NCP tried to oust me, now they are under pressure: Rashed Khan

Prime Minister's Political Assistant Rashed Khan has claimed that leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) attempted to politically undermine him and have him removed from office after he assumed his position. He said that the same groups are now facing mounting controversies themselves.

In a post published on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday (July 22), Rashed Khan said that since being appointed as the Prime Minister's Political Assistant, Jamaat and NCP members had launched a coordinated campaign against him. According to him, they believed that by raising criticism and allegations, they could persuade the Prime Minister to remove him from his post. He also alleged that the campaign included public speeches at political rallies.

Rashed Khan said the situation has now reversed, claiming that those who sought to politically weaken him are currently struggling to defend their own positions.
Criticizing the NCP, he said that as a newly formed political party, it was expected to demonstrate a different style of politics. However, he alleged that the conduct of many of its leaders has resembled that of Jamaat activists and, in some instances, has been even more disappointing.

He further claimed that the NCP did not take a critical stance over a controversial Jamaat member of parliament but instead supported the lawmaker. He described the incident as "the shame of the new arrangement."

Addressing Jamaat, Rashed Khan said that unless the party takes organizational action against the MP, it will find it difficult to justify its position before the public. He argued that merely issuing a show-cause notice would not be enough to satisfy public expectations.

In the concluding part of his post, Rashed Khan also criticized Jamaat's political strategy. He alleged that in its effort to quickly strengthen its political position, the party has drifted away from its ideological principles. As a result, he said, Jamaat has become embroiled in one controversy after another and will ultimately suffer political consequences.
