Jamaat’s PR system demand, NCP’s symbol dispute won’t affect polls: EC

Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam has said that Jamaat-e-Islami’s demand for proportional representation (PR) and the dispute over the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) election symbol will not impact the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.

Speaking to reporters in Chapainawabganj on Friday (September 26), the commissioner emphasised that the Election Commission operates strictly under constitutional and legal provisions and will not deviate from them.

He further stated that individuals found responsible for irregularities in previous elections will be barred from election duties.

The remarks come amid Jamaat’s recent demonstrations and its five-point charter demanding reforms, including the adoption of PR and the suspension of activities by certain political alliances.
