JUCSU Elections
Jamaat-Shibir leaders spotted at university gates during vote counting
As the vote counting for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections continued late Thursday night, Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists were spotted at various gates of the university.
Around 2am on Friday (September 11), Maulana Afzal Hossain, a candidate for Dhaka-19 constituency from Jamaat-e-Islami, arrived at the main gate of the university with 15-20 supporters.
When questioned by the media, Afzal Hossain stated he was there to inquire about the election situation. Shortly after, he left on a motorcycle, but the activists who accompanied him remained stationed at the gate.
Simultaneously, over a hundred leaders and activists of Chhatra Shibir were seen at several university gates, including Dairy Gate, Prantik Gate, and Bishmail Gate, with around 200 people at each location. Shibir supporters claimed their party performed well in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections and were awaiting the results with enthusiasm.
University Proctor Dr. AKM Rashidul Alam responded to the situation, stating, "I am not aware of this matter. I am informing the security team to look into it."
Earlier, the voting took place in 21 university halls from 9am to 5pm on Thursday. However, several student panels, including Chhatra Dal, boycotted the election in the afternoon and evening, alleging irregularities and calling for a fresh JUCSU election.
