Jamiat leader under fire for denying Sheikh Mujib’s contribution

Controversial remarks were made at a reception for freedom fighters organized in Patuakhali on the occasion of Independence Day and National Day.

The incident took place at a function organized at the Patuakhali District Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Thursday morning (March 26).

While addressing the function organized by the district administration, Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh District President Abdullah Haque Kawsari said that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had no contribution to the Liberation War. After such remarks, intense anger arose among the freedom fighters present.

After that, some freedom fighters stood up and immediately protested and a commotion started at the venue.

Senior officials of the Patuakhali district administration were present at the function. Later, the situation was brought under control with the intervention of the administration.

The heroic freedom fighters condemned such comments as 'distortion of history' and called such statements unacceptable on a day like Independence Day.
