Jamuna Bridge collects Tk 3.39 crore toll in 24 hours
The number of vehicles on the Tangail-Jamuna highway has increased significantly due to the pressure of people returning home ahead of Eid. In the last 24 hours, 46,943 vehicles have crossed the Jamuna Bridge. During this time, a toll of Tk 3.39 crore has been collected.
The Jamuna Bridge Authority said that this number of vehicles crossed the bridge in the 24 hours from 12am on Monday to 12am on Tuesday.
Of these, 19,445 vehicles headed for Dhaka have crossed. A toll of Tk 1.66 crore has been collected.
On the other hand, 27,498 vehicles headed for North Bengal have crossed. A toll of Tk 1.72 crore has been collected.
Syed Riaz Uddin, Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, said that a total of 18 toll booths, nine on each side of the bridge, have been opened to ensure smooth Eid journey. Out of these, two booths on each side are reserved for motorcycle crossing.
It is worth noting that regular tolls have been collected here since the Jamuna Bridge was opened in 1998. During normal times, an average of 18 to 20 thousand vehicles cross the bridge every day. However, this number doubles or sometimes triples during the Eid journey.
